Distributism in Action
by Russell Smith, Economic
Development Officer of the BPP.
Unlike the establishment parties who hold fast to the failed dogmas of ‘free market’ capitalism or state controlled socialism, the British People’s Party is a radical nationalist movement that embraces the economic system of Distributism.
Politicians on the Left argue for Nationalisation and State-control of the means of production. In theory this should lead to everyone being an equal partner in every aspect of the national economy. In practice the result is that a class of bureaucratic managers gain control over the nation and the overwhelming majority of the people are reduced to property-less and powerless serfs.
On the Right of the political spectrum it is argued that State involvement should be at the minimal level practicable, with ownership and control being left to the ‘free market’. The result of this is that the large corporations swallow up the small companies and put independent traders out of business. In turn the corporations merge to create a tiny number of mega-corporations who act together as a cartel, being effectively one organisation. Majority shareholders hold power with the overwhelming mass of society having no influence whatsoever. These corporations have no respect for National borders, which results in people worldwide having no job security or control over their own lives. We can see the result of this in the emerging New World Order.
It is ironic that Nationalists have been labelled as ‘right wing’. In financial matters we have more in common with the Left than we have with the Capitalists! Our economics demand that power remains within the nation. This does not mean that we should refer to ourselves as ‘left wing’. The economic systems of the left and the right are different only at a superficial level. The terms ‘Left’ and ‘Right’ come from Freemasonry and have no value in our circles – they serve only to divide us so those who would rule us are faced with no effective opposition.
So what then is Distributism? Distributism is the belief in the widest practicable spread of ownership of property and commerce, with the backing of a strong state to prevent the drift into monopolies. A nation built upon Distributism will have a strong financially independent and co-operative population. Wherever possible, ownership will rest with individuals. When it is necessary for a large number of people to come together to form a productive industry, this will take the form of co-operatives, with everyone being an equal shareholder. Regulations will exist to prevent shares being accumulated. There will be no such thing as a major shareholder and unlike under communism where bureaucracy becomes overbearing, it will be functional only – all profits will be returned to the shareholders through dividends. In contrast to finance capitalism, foreign ownership will be forbidden. The economy of the nation will be owned by, controlled by and run solely for the benefit of the indigenous people of the nation. In a sense this is a return to the Guilds of the Middle Ages. However, we are not Luddites. We embrace the new technologies which would have helped move the people away from subsistence living had the power of finance not taxed the people back in to serfdom.
The title of this article is Distributism in Action. This is because our ideal is to overturn the materialistic dogma that has ruined our country. We recognise that capitalism is entrenched and it will take generations to replace it. The march of the New World Order will not wait for us to make our move - We must begin the battle to restore our nation to financial health now. So many politicians have let the people down with false promises that the people rightly distrust theoretical ideologies. A Nationalist victory will not come unless we prove to the general population that we offer the solution to our country’s problems.
Everyone who is a member or supporter of the BPP has something to offer. You may have building skills, catering abilities, a driving licence, to mention but a few. If you genuinely have no practical skills to offer, you can offer financial help – instead of looking through the Yellow Pages when you need a tradesman, you could employ a comrade. Everyone should register his/her skills with BPP HQ. In time as the movement grows, people will join the BPP to gain access to our skills network. Some will join to make use of our expanding range of services; others will join to sell their skills.
By building our business/skills network we will provide a solid financial base for the movement. Individuals who earn from the network will be asked to contribute a small percentage to the movement. From this we intend to establish a reserve of money for the establishment of small-scale, ethically sound, businesses run by our members. By doing this we can lift our people out of the capitalist system and build a parallel economy built on fundamental values of kinship and co-operation, not on exploitation and greed. We will show the wider society by example that we are different to the materialist politicians of the false left-right Masonic spectrum. This way we will gain real support and real power, and we will sweep the decadent materialist system into the sewer where it belongs.
