The Freedom of Information Act - USE IT!

It's not often that the BPP will praise much modern-day government legislation as most of it seems to be on the statute books to keep us, the White working-class, where the System wants us to be but the Freedom of Information Act 2000 is very useful for finding out practically anything that has been done by servants of the State. Below are examples of what can be done, the first is a receipt of information requested, the other is a request for information. Thanks to the BPPWD leader for writing to demand this information.

Request for information Re BPP Meeting, London, 27th July 2008.

How much did the operation cost?:
£11,183.34

How many officers were in attendance that day for the operation:
44

How many of each rank:
1 Superintendent
1 Inspector
10 Sergeants
32 Police Constables

How many arrests were made that day: 
Seven

BPP COMMENT: On this basis we can conclude that for each person arrested there were 6.28 Police Officers and £1,597.62 involved. Incidentally two of these charges were for public order, one being spitting and one being swearing.  Puts a whole new meaning to a swear box :0)

FOI Request Re Notting Hill Carnival.

The following FOI request was sent to the Metropolitan Police Service following the August Notting Hill Carnival:

Dear Sir/Madam

I request the following figures pertaining to the 2008 Notting Hill Carnival:

*The monetary cost of the entire operation including the planning stages.
*The man-hours involved in policing this operation including planning stages.
*How many officers were involved both in planning and being in attendance on the day, can you please also detail how many of which rank were incorporated, ie constables, sergeants etc. 
*What facilities were utilised on the day and in planning, ie mounted police, armed police, surveillance equipment, and all transport equipment?
*How many arrests were made directly related to the carnival?
*What crimes were people arrested for?
*What were the ethnic origins of each person arrested?
*What were the ethnic origins of the people for each separate crime? ie drugs, public order, etc.
