They can each get up to a disgusting £38,400 a year
- or £3,200 a month - to cover the costs of 'travel' AND running
a second office in their own countries. This is on TOP of their
£60,000 salaries, staff and attendance allowances, and over
generous pensions.
This decision is outrageous coming as it does after an internal EU
report showed the well-heeled MEP's were already fiddling up to
£100 million a year!
The 785 MEP's have always been given the allowance unchecked but
outside EU aparatus pressure has been growing for them to admit what
they were actually doing with there inflated pay and many perks.
Unsuprisingly, a recent meeting of the fourteen vice-presidents (yes -
14!) agreed that receipts weren't needed.
Reforms to prevent the abuse of payments for emplying superflous staff
were also watered down by the ever powerful 'Fourteen'.
Even some British MEP's are concerned about the lack of accountability
and unchecked spending within the EU parliament.
They were even considering a second pension! This was even too
outrageous for the fat cats in Brussels and the suggestion was dropped.
The perks, 'allowances', and downright fraud however - at British
taxpayers expense in part - goes on!
