A MAN WE WILL NEVER FORGET!

Tuesday July 19^th 2005 was a dark day indeed for White Nationalism not just for those of us in Great Britain but also for White Nationalists throughout the world, as the shockwaves which have swept through the Movement on a worldwide basis have shown.

On that morning at about 11.00am I found out that the Founder and Leader of the BNP, and long time Chairman of the National Front, John Tyndall had been found dead by his wife Val, at the age of seventy-one.

 

This has come as shock for many, many reasons. Not the least of which is that John, not old by any means at 71 (his birthday having just gone by), was noted for his physical fitness. Indeed, on the day before his death, he had been to his doctor’s and been given a clean bill of health. I talked to him on the evening before his death regarding some details for the August issue of Spearhead and he was in fine form, joking over some points and as bright and alert as ever.

 

JT, as we all knew him was due to appear at Leeds Crown Court for a hearing under his continued persecution under the disgusting Race Act, a charge which we are certain JT would have beaten had not death taken him up so swiftly. The Nationalist Alliance went ahead with the support demonstration outside the court anyway and over thirty NA members, wearing black armbands dipped our flags in a salute and two-minute silent tribute to John’s memory.

I personally first met JT when I was 18 years old in 1967. The setting was the first NF HQ in Palace Chambers, directly opposite Westminster. I was a little in awe of him for I had already heard and read much of his reputation a as a fighting White Nationalist who then and to the end of his days brooked no compromise! What I found, and what I continued to find during my own long struggle through White Nationalism, was JT – a man with a ready ear for what you had to say, even if he disagreed he would listen. And yes John we often disagreed on tactics but we never fell out. Political things never became personal and this was one of JT’s many strengths.

 

Another legacy he has left is the monthly magazine SPEARHEAD. Founded in 1964, Spearhead hardly ever missed an issue and this year sees its almost continual appearance for over forty years. Every month, despite his many other commitments, JT ensured Spearhead appeared on the streets, and even when lesser men tried their best to stop it being distributed and read, JT made sure it appeared, often travelling back from exhausting meetings the length and breadth of the country, only to sit down again and start work on the magazine to ensure it met its publication date.

 

John was active in Nationalist politics in the 1950’s being a member, and a very active member of the League of Empire Loyalists. Later in the late fifties he joined Colin Jordan’s White Defence League which amalgamated in the early sixties with the National Labour Party of John Bean to form the first British National Party. Later he formed his own Greater Britain Movement which in 1967 merged with the League of Empire Loyalists and the BNP to form the National Front. Apart from a few short spells, JT was Chairman of the NF for most of its meaningful life – 1967 through to 1982. It is estimated that in that time over 64,000 members passed through its ranks.

 

In 1982, after the NF was hijacked for the first time by the Strasserites and a homosexual clique, JT could no longer stand this mess that purported to be leading the NF, and led his few hundred followers into the New National Front which shortly became the BNP. JT led the BNP through the White Nationalist doldrums of the 80’s and then presided over its rise throughout the 90’s as the political atmosphere changed and the BNP started rapidly gaining members again- got its first council seat with Derek Beacon being elected and was poised as BNP Leader to face a new millennium with a fully united Movement behind him, and the political tide moving in his favour. Unfortunately, some of the same people he had watched wreck the Front in the 80’s were now in the BNP and he lost the leadership challenge in the late 90’s to what we might loosely term the ‘National populists’ – a set of Nationalists who believe that by cutting principles you could get a little bit of power. JT had of course seen this tried before; it always works for a short time but eventually is doomed to failure. John Tyndall was a man of principle and he would NEVER surrender his principles for short term false gains.

 

John was expelled twice from the Party he had dedicated his life to and in the end, this year was even proscribed from his own Party, an act which hurt him deeply no matter how brave a face he put on it. He was determined to try to reverse what he saw as a disastrous course of action but that battle – his lifelong battle for a true and noble ideal is now over. Sadly, he has been taken from us, but we are very proud to be able to say that his very last meeting was a Nationalist Alliance one, in Hove on July 9^th – his home town.

 

JT may have left us in body bit in spirit he will never leave us. The Nationalist Alliance is determined to carry on whatever the cost, his long and arduous fight for the salvation of his land and people and for the Fourteen Words.

 

JT lives on in our ranks – his comrades of many years standing.
