NATIONALIST WEEK No.76 27th November 2005

The weekly online bulletin of the British People’s Party

"The things that the flag stands for were created by the experiences of a great people. Everything that it stands for was written by their lives. The flag is the embodiment, not of sentiment, but of history." -- Woodrow Wilson

News release from Richard Edmonds....

FREE SPEECH RALLY IN LONDON 25th November 2005

On Friday outside the Austrian Embassy, and adjacent to the German Embassy in Belgravia, Central London, there took place a demonstration in support of David Irving, currently in jail in Austria.
The demo was organised by veteran Nationalist activist RICHARD EDMONDS and MICHELE LADY RENOUF. Michele Lady Renouf is a public relations assistant to David Irving. She has just returned from a trip to
Canada where she visited eight cities, in order to speak on behalf of, and raise funds for jailed ERNST ZUNDEL. She and Richard Edmonds attended the opening day of veteran free speech campaigner Ernst Zundel in Mannheim, Germany on the 8th of November. The next day, both Michele and Richard were able to visit Mr. Zundel in his top security jail in Mannheim and to talk with him for an hour.
At Friday’s demo in
Central London, there were some twenty supporters of free speech and friends of David Irving present. The demo lasted a full hour and was well received by passers-by and motorists. Leaflets were handed out, plus picket boards and a loud speaker hammered home the free speech protest.
The BPP adds its voice: Free Zundel and Irving NOW!

More than 53 million Muslims in Europe
Survey shows Islam on the rise across continent

More than 53 million Muslims live in Europe - 14 million of them in the European Union, according to newly released figures. The Central Institute's Islam Archives in Soest, Germany, says the number of Muslims in Europe has increased by 800,000 over the last two years, reports the German evangelical news agency IDEA.
The institute's director, Salim Abdullah, says that among the 25 EU states,
France has the highest number of Muslims - 5.5 million - followed by Germany with 3.2 million, the United Kingdom with 1.5 million and Italy with 1 million.
Taking into account the whole continent,
Russia has 25 million Muslims and the European part of Turkey 5.9 million. The Muslim population in Germany is mostly made up of Turkish migrants. But the number of Muslims holding a German passport has risen to almost 1 million.
Muslim worship in
Germany is on the rise. Approximately 200,000 take part in daily prayers and 493,000 in Friday prayers at mosques and prayer houses - an increase of more than 10 percent over last year's figures.
Islam in
Germany is a "young religion," according to the institute, which counts 850,000 Muslims as minors. One in five Muslim adolescents worships regularly.
The number of converts to Islam has reached a new high in
Germany. According to the institute, more than 1,100 people changed their religion to Islam between 2004 and 2005. Approximately 60 percent of the converts were women. Most converted because they married a Muslim.
But the reverse also is true: More and more Muslims in
Germany are becoming Christians. Most are Iranians in exile, who left their country after the Islamic revolution of 1979. Iranian converts estimate that each year approximately 60 Muslims are baptized in Germany – still a tiny number.
The institute believes that more than 100,000 Iranian Shiites have converted to the Christian faith since the Islamic revolution. Most live in the United States.

Brussels bites back
Brussels
It was perhaps inevitable that the crash in central London of Banana Republic Airlines Flight 101, which killed 453 people and created a swath of destruction across Islington, provoked
Britain’s withdrawal from the EU. Few could understand how the judges in the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg had the power to overturn the secretary of state’s ban on the airline for its poor safety record, giving it the right to enter UK airspace. As the body-count mounted, not even the most ardent Europhiles wanted to justify the fact that a panel of unelected and unaccountable judges with no known expertise in aviation safety had the power to overrule the British government on banning airlines from flying into Britain. Public blame of the EU was sealed when it emerged that the reason no one could remember the British government handing over this power to the EU’s supreme court in Luxembourg was that ministers had never publicly announced it — no statement in Parliament, not even a press release. They had gone along with the usual EU method, agreeing things behind closed doors.

You may think I am making this up, but the only bit that’s not true — yet — is the accident. You won’t have read about it in the papers or heard it in Parliament, but the government has indeed agreed in principle to give up its final say on which airlines fly into
Britain as part of a harmonised EU aviation-safety regime. The main part of the regime — which, an official admitted to me, involves a wholesale transfer of powers from the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority to the European Aviation Safety Agency in Cologne — was announced last week by the European Commission. Whatever the merits of transferring control of aviation safety in Britain’s skies from London to Brussels, Luxembourg and Cologne — and they do exist — don’t expect to hear a debate about it. ‘It is very politically sensitive,’ one EU official told me.

BPP TRAINING SESSIONS PLANNED – Announcement by John Wood

Starting early in the New Year, a series of training sessions will begin in order to teach speaking and writing skills to younger members.

It is surprising that although many members can hold forth an argument in a pub or clubroom and present logical and reasoned opinions, they are utterly incapable of standing up in front of an audience and deliver even the shortest of speeches.

Probably the reason for this is some sort of ‘Stage fright’ that sets in when confronted by several rows of people waiting to hear your every word.  In reality, delivering your point of view is exactly the same when sitting comfortably round a table as it is when addressing an audience from a platform.

The most common fault of inexperienced speakers is to ‘dry up.’  They know what to say, they know what they are talking about, or should do; yet for some reason, they fail to deliver.  The outcome is a stilted speech interspersed with hesitant ‘ers’ and ‘ums’ and quite often digressing from the topic being discussed.

The training programmes will help to alleviate these common faults and will teach the potential speaker how to overcome them.   There are just one or two basic rules to follow in order to achieve a fluid flow of verbal communication.

Firstly, it is imperative to know the subject about which the speaker is putting over.  Secondly, the speaker should address his audience in a manner that will keep them attentive.  Add a little humour here and there to break the tension; illustrate his speech by including a few anecdotes from personal experience and above all, maintain eye contact at all times by constantly looking at various sections of the audience and to give the impression that you are speaking to them personally. This may seem obvious when giving examples here but it is surprising how very many speakers fail to follow these fundamental guidelines.

Apart from speaker training, we shall be looking at communications by the written word. How to write a letter to the press or to a local council, etc.  How to put into words, your opinions in a manner that will be readily understood, avoiding simple spelling mistakes and bad grammar.  This may sound dull and boring but good correspondence is very important when trying to get your message across.  A sloppily composed missive will not be taken seriously by anyone well versed in the written word such as editors of newspapers and magazines.

There are certain basic rules that apply here just as the rules regarding speaking. Always read what you have written at least a couple of times before you send it. Ask yourself if you could improve your letter by the use of different words or phrases. Check carefully for errors in typing as well as for grammatical content. If anything looks clumsy and out of place, try replacing it.  The English language is a wonderful thing and to abuse it by slovenly writing is a sure way to get your communications ignored.   It is not difficult with a little guidance to produce a letter or article that is pleasing in its content.

I can guarantee that those attending these training seminars will be surprised to find that their speaking and writing skills will improve dramatically in a relatively short time.  Further details of these classes will be published in the very near future.

JGW. BPP Chairman.
