<> Do not allow yourself to be intimidated into being treated as a Vulnerable Prisoner - and placed on a segregation wing. Your companions there would be sex offenders and informants - a fact the authorites would no doubt leak to the media...What does that say about the Nationalist cause? It is difficult to muster much public sympathy for a 'Political Soldier' skulking with paedophiles instead of carrying on the struggle.
The alternative is action - on the personal, political and administrative levels. If attacked, defend yourself to the best of your ability. Let Nationalist organizations rally public opinion behind you - letters to MPs are passed along the chain of command until they eventually end up on the Governor's desk. The options pursued by Irish Nationalists in their struggle are available to all - hunger strike, dirty protest, going 'on the blanket'. Adopting any of these would result in the prison service keeping the prisoner in solitary (free from attack) for the sake of 'Good Order And Discipline'. Then, political capital could be made out of personal misfortune - rather than public disgrace! Those who were accused of killing Steven lawrence did not go on protection. Those convicted of the murder of Anthony Walker in Liverpol did not request special treatment -and fought back when attacked. Irish Republicans have traditionally eschewd VP wings. Neither the Birmingham Six, Guildford Four, or Balcome Street siege gang ever requested protection. Even the vulnerable Stefan Kizko, wrongly convicted of murder-rape, braved assault/intimidation on normal location rather than compromise his professed inocence. Those who one would have thought in need of protection from other prisoners - the muslim fanatics determined to destroy us and our way of life - strut around the prison system proselytizing! Where others have starved themselves to death to create propaganda, should those representing the white man's cause lurk in hiding with child rapists and police informants?
