CAMPAIGN AGAINST RACIST CDS
![]() ![]() 19.07.08 - Today I meandered through Leeds to the city's HMV store and purchased Ice Cube's 'Death Certificate' CD. Nothing spectacular there admittedly but the racist lyrics were clearly in contravention of the incitement to racial hatred laws so I proceeded to a City police station and lodged an official complaint with officers there. I took with me a comprehensive list of the offensive lyrics which included numerous derogatory references to White people which I then relayed to the officers dealing with my enquiry. I was taken to a room and
pointed out that I found the lyrics offensive, they caused me harm and
distress and were unequivocally in breach of various UK laws. The male
officer stated that due to a disclaimer on the front of the CD, in his
opinion this made it OK so I then pointed out that on that inference,
if I wore a tshirt saying I might offend, under UK law I could make
racist remarks and be exempt from legislation. Apparently I was
incorrect with that assumption! So too was I when I stated that I was
free to publicly offer for sale CD's which contained lyrics which
threatened to kill negroes if it was legal to sell CD's threatening to
kill White people! I then pointed out the recent Simon Sheppard
case where a successful prosecution came about for anti-semitic
literature and clearly lyrics which berate Aryan people should be dealt
with similarly.
When asked my reason for making
this complaint I stated that it was due to fervent political oppression
as an indigenous White person and my subsequent desire to see that the
UK's race relations laws are applied universally without exception - to
non-Whites as well as Whites. I find the absolute lack of any
White power music from stores offensive when Black power ones are so
readily available and this is the issue I sought to redress.
After approximately half an
hour I was told that as a case like this had not been dealt with before
it would now be referred to West Yorkshire Police's legal advice team
(solicitors) who would review the exact laws applicable but they felt
rather than a public order issue it would very probably fall in to an
obscene publication category due to its inherent racist lyrics. I
was given a crime reference number and told that someone would contact
me once the precise legalities were addressed. As soon as I hear
anything I will post it here to update!
What's good for the goose is
good for the gander!!

UPDATE Tonight I received a telephone call from an Inspector who is dealing with this case and I will be travelling to meet with him tomorrow evening to discuss it further. |
