Anger over 'racist and sectarian' UDA magazinePolicing Board member and Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson is calling on the PSNI to investigate under incitement legislation a Londonderry UDA magazine which she branded a “blatant and sinister incitement to hatred”. Ms Martina Anderson made her comments after a constituent handed over a copy of “Warrior” magazine this week. It had been distributed in mixed areas of the Waterside and gives “a worrying insight into the mindset” of the UDA in Derry and North Antrim, according to Ms Anderson. She said that the magazine is used to promote the organisation and uses racist and sectarian language. The Sinn Fein Assembly member said the magazine includes a defence of the murder of Kevin McDaid, a photograph of his son with an arrow pointed at him clearly identifying him, something she believes is “clearly sinister and should be investigated by the police”. In another article the magazine glorifies the intimidation of the Romanian families that were forced out of south Belfast and includes a verbal attack on MLA Anna Lo. Ms Anderson said: “This publication is a blatant incitement to hatred and even murder. “I have submitted a copy of this magazine to the PSNI who are now investigating it and I will be insisting that all possible steps are taken to put it out of circulation and to take action against anyone selling or distributing it.” A PSNI spokeswoman said:
“This publication has been brought to our attention and we are studying
it to see if it contravenes the law and if further action is required.” Belfast Telegraph, 22 July
